KSSSA Term 1 games – Progression to the County Finals

On February 15th, our teams participating in the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association’s (KSSSA) Term 1 games, (handball boys & girls, hockey boys & girls, and basketball boys & girls) were at Thika High for the sub county games, ready to make their mark.

The boys handball team played their semi-final against Broadway High, winning 37 – 4, before beating Chania High 43 – 15 in the final. The girls handball team faced Chania High in the semi – final, beating them 16-4 before going down 10 -12 in the final against Thika Girls Karibaribi, despite a spirited showing. 

The girls’ hockey team played against Kenyatta High School, dominating in a 12-0 victory. The boys’ team faced Thika High, winning with a convincing 4 – 0 score.

The girls’ basketball team were given a walkover as their opponents did not show up, while the boys team were unfortunately knocked out.

Athletics took place at Thika Stadium on 22nd February 2025, with our athletes delivering an exceptional performance across various events. The competition was intense, with each athlete pushing their limits to qualify for the next stage.

The boys’ team put up a tough fight, earning 2nd place overall with impressive wins in sprints, hurdles, and field events.

Boys 

100m: Julius Oduor – 2nd place
200m: Bramwell Mathenge – 1st place
400m: Clinton Lemashon – 1st place
800m: Clinton Lemashon – 1st place
Javelin: Clinton Lemashon – 1st place
110m Hurdles: Bramwell Mathenge – 1st place, Abdirahman Adan – 2nd place
400m Hurdles: Joe Bidden – 1st place, Edwin Ropili – 2nd place
300m Steeplechase: Elson Lepakio – 1st place

 

Girls

The girls’ team dominated, securing 1st place overall with strong performances in sprints, middle-distance races, and field events.

100m: Rita Adhiambo – 1st place, Loise Wambui – 2nd place
200m: Rita Adhiambo – 1st place, Aisha Hamaro – 2nd place
400m: Loise Wambui – 1st place
800m: Joy Lorchima – 2nd place
1500m: Sylvia Nyakundi – 2nd place
3000m: Sylvia Nyakundi – 2nd place
5000m: Mercy Maganga – 2nd place
Discus: Sarafina Nasiae – 1st place, Sharon Kerubo – 2nd place
Triple Jump: Rita Adhiambo – 1st place
100m Hurdles: Aisha Hamaro 1st place, Jerem Matundo 2nd place
400m Hurdles: Nicole Akinyi – 1st place, Joy Lorchima – 2nd place
3000m Steeplechase: Mercy Maganga
Hammer Throw: Sharon Kerubo – 1st place, Sarafina Nasiae – 2nd place

 

Among the standout performers, Clinton Lemashon was in top form, proving to be one of the most well-rounded athletes of the meet. Bramwell Mathenge was unstoppable in the sprints and hurdles, with explosive speed and technical ability made him a key asset for the team.

Rita Adhiambo was a force to be reckoned with, showing exceptional speed and agility, while in the field events, Sarafina Nasiae and Sharon Kerubo delivered outstanding performances.


The teams are now preparing for the county finals set to be held between 5th and 8th March 2025.  Their dedication and resilience were evident, and their strong results are a promising sign for what lies ahead.
