“Growth is not always obvious. It happens in the late nights, the setbacks, and the moments you feel least prepared.”
These words, shared by Class of 2026 valedictorians Lindsey Ragadwa and Kinyua Kamau during the graduation ceremony, perfectly captured the journey of a class that embraced every challenge with courage, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Standing before fellow graduates, parents, teachers, and distinguished guests, the two reflected on a remarkable four-year journey that transformed a group of uncertain students into confident young leaders ready to make their mark on the world.
A Journey Built on Growth
The Class of 2026 joined the Academy in April 2022 with different dreams and aspirations. Like every new cohort, they stepped into an unfamiliar environment filled with countless opportunities for growth; four years later, they leave with lifelong lessons that will shape their future. Their journey was one of constant adaptation; every challenge became an opportunity to learn, every setback became a stepping stone, and every shared experience strengthened the bonds that made them one family.
While academic excellence was at the heart of their experience, some of their most memorable lessons were outside the classroom. From Presidential Award expeditions and outdoor adventures to late-night study sessions and school trips, they discovered that education extends far beyond textbooks. They learned resilience while overcoming challenges, patience while working together, and adaptability when plans did not go as expected.
These experiences created friendships forged through shared struggles and unforgettable moments. Whether preparing meals during hiking expeditions or encouraging one another through demanding academic schedules, they learned that success is often built through collaboration and community.
Resilience in the Face of Challenge
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is renowned for its academic rigour, and the Class of 2026 experienced its demands firsthand. Internal Assessments, Extended Essays, examinations, and countless revisions tested their intellect and determination. Yet, as the valedictorians reminded their audience, success was never about avoiding failure; it was about responding to it. This mindset of perseverance became one of the defining characteristics of the graduating class and a powerful message to those who will follow in their footsteps.
The Class of 2026 also distinguished itself through exceptional achievements beyond the classroom. From sports and leadership to clubs, arts, and service, students represented the academy with distinction at county, regional, national, and East African competitions. Their successes reflected a commitment to holistic education, where discipline, teamwork, and passion are valued alongside academic achievement. The valedictorians acknowledged that these accomplishments were made possible through the dedication of coaches, club patrons, residential parents, teachers, and every member of the Academy community who invested in their growth.
Carrying the Academy Forward
As they prepare to begin the next chapter in universities and communities around the world, the graduates leave with more than certificates and awards. They carry discipline cultivated through years of hard work, curiosity nurtured by inquiry-based learning, resilience strengthened through adversity, and friendships that will last a lifetime. The graduation ceremony was not simply a celebration of academic success. It was a celebration of transformation. They have demonstrated that excellence is not achieved overnight but built through consistent effort, shared experiences, and a willingness to keep growing.
As the valedictorians concluded with their powerful mantra:
“When they sit, we stand. When they stand, we stand out. And when they stand out, we become the standard of measure.”
Indeed, where they stand, standards rise.
Congratulations, Class of 2026. The future awaits.
