The 26th edition of Hog Charge was held on Sunday, 26th January 2025, at Northlands Ranch. The event is an annual mountain bike competition hosted by Peponi School. Competitors work in teams of four to navigate a course of checkpoints on mountain bikes, aiming to complete it in the shortest time possible. The event features categories for under-12, under-14, and open classes, fostering teamwork and outdoor adventure among participants.

We had two teams participating: Lincoln Nyaga, Derrick Ochieng, Abel Mwamba, and Edgar Momanyi formed the boys’ team (Team 93), while Lindsey Wagatu, Faith Buchera, Clara Wangithi, and Zulfa Bakari formed the girls’ team (Team 94) and finished third in their category. The teams divided their responsibilities quite well, showcasing good teamwork, resilience, and initiative while having fun.

The Hog Charge is a fundraising initiative supporting Rhino Ark, a charitable trust dedicated to conserving Kenya’s mountain forest ecosystems, known as the “Water Towers.” Rhino Ark’s efforts focus on developing sustainable solutions to the challenges facing these vital ecosystems and their threatened biodiversity through public-private partnerships. The funds raised contribute to projects such as constructing electric fences to mitigate human-wildlife conflicts and preserve critical habitats
