The tiles clicked rhythmically across dozens of boards as twelve of our brightest word warriors competed against some of the top scrabble players from across the region at Alliance High School on March 15th – 16th.

What began as a crisp Saturday morning soon transformed into a battlefield of wits, where every triple-word score drew gasps and every strategic play revealed the depth of our students’ preparation. The two-day event tested our players’ vocabulary and strategic skills, with several standout performances earning qualification to the National Championship.

As the final scores were tallied across all regional qualifiers, Scrabble Kenya announced that:

  • Under 19 competitors would need 5+ points to advance
  • Under 15 players require 3+ points to secure a national spot

Our senior players demonstrated remarkable skill in the Under 19 category:

  • Douglas Obadiah and Joe Bidden dominated with perfect 8-point scores
  • Jian Ngumi, Ricky Leparkiras, Collins Wangai, and Samson Lowasa showed consistency with 7 points each
  • Sharon Wanja (6.5 points) and Sandra Esther (6 points) delivered strong performances
  • Derrick Osire and Juliet Wangari secured qualification with 5 points
  • In the Under 15 category, Reagan Onsongo impressed everyone with his 6-point finish in his first major tournament.

Our team secured an excellent 4th place finish out of 12 competing schools – a testament to our players’ preparation and competitive spirit.

The road now leads to Utumishi Academy in Nakuru County this June, where our qualifiers will face the nation’s best. Our coaches are already preparing a rigorous training schedule to ensure our team performs at its peak at the National Championship.
