The Mpesa Foundation Academy (MFA) chess team showcased exceptional talent at the 3rd Edition of the Jumuiya ya Afrika Mashariki Open Chess Tournament, held on 14th and 15th June 2025 at the Mpesa Foundation Academy Sports Hall. Eight students represented the school with outstanding performances, earning top honors and cementing MFA’s reputation as a powerhouse in chess.
Outstanding Individual Performances
The team delivered impressive results, with two students securing podium finishes:
- 1st Runners Up: Kipngeno Cornelius – Dominated with 5.5 points out of 6
- 2nd Runners Up: Otieno Joseph – Achieved 5.3 points out of 6

- Position 9: Maina Jaycrack – 5 points
- Position 13: Mutua Joseph – 4.5 points
- Position 18: Kamau Emanuel – 4.3 points

School/Club Trophy Champions
Beyond individual success, the Chess Club was awarded the 1st Place Trophy as the Best School/Club in the tournament—a testament to the team’s collective effort and dedication.
