I am honored to have been selected as a member of the Youth Advisory Council of Torwood Leadership Africa, a youth-led initiative that empowers young Africans to become leaders who drive meaningful social change. My selection to the council was based on my work in climate advocacy, youth leadership, and innovation. Through my projects, research, and public engagement, I have focused on raising awareness about climate change and empowering young people to take action within their communities. Being part of the Youth Advisory Council allows me to collaborate with other young leaders who are equally passionate about building a sustainable and just future for our continent.
My Journey
My journey began with a simple but powerful realization: climate change is not a distant problem, it is something communities experience every day. Growing up, I witnessed how environmental challenges such as drought, pollution, and changing weather patterns affect people’s lives. These experiences inspired me to learn more about environmental sustainability and to use my voice to advocate for change.
My passion for climate advocacy grew stronger at M-PESA Foundation Academy. The Academy has provided an environment that encourages innovation, critical thinking, and leadership. Through various projects, service initiatives, and academic experiences, I have been able to explore how science, technology, and communication can be used to address global challenges. I also developed a strong interest in storytelling as a tool for change. I realized that communicating complex issues like climate change in simple and powerful ways can inspire people to take action.
Experiences and Achievements
One of my proudest achievements was becoming the Winner of the 2025 Climate Innovation Challenge, where I produced an award-winning awareness video about climate change. The project used storytelling and digital media to highlight the urgency of environmental issues and inspire communities to take action toward sustainability.
I am also the Founder and Director of Voices for Climate Justice (V4CJ), a youth-led movement that empowers young people to raise their voices in the fight for climate justice. Through this initiative, I work with other youth to promote climate education, advocacy, community outreach, and storytelling for environmental change.
Recently, I was selected as a DEP2 Ambassador at Kambria, a global innovation program that brings together changemakers to explore decentralized technologies and collaborative solutions for real-world challenges. Through this program, I am learning how emerging technologies and digital collaboration can empower youth-led innovation and sustainability initiatives.
I am also the Inventor of the Smog-Eating Paint concept, an innovative idea designed to help reduce air pollution in urban environments. This project explores how special coatings applied to buildings and infrastructure can absorb and neutralize harmful air pollutants, contributing to cleaner and healthier cities.
Beyond these initiatives, I was Shortlisted for the Oxford Scholastica Essay Competition, where I explored global challenges and the role young leaders can play in shaping the future. I also participated in the AU Go Gal! Entrepreneurship Programme organized by the African Union Youth Division, where I developed skills in innovation, entrepreneurship, and leadership while collaborating with young women across Africa.
Additionally, I had the opportunity to participate in the WECAN Global Women’s Assembly for Climate Justice, where I joined climate leaders from over 50 countries to discuss solutions for a more sustainable and equitable future.
These experiences have helped me grow as a leader, innovator, and advocate, and they continue to motivate me to use creativity, technology, and storytelling to address global environmental challenges.
The Youth Advisory Council of Torwood Leadership Africa brings together young leaders to provide insights, guidance, and ideas that help shape youth-focused programs and initiatives. The council plays an important role in ensuring that young people’s perspectives are represented in leadership conversations across Africa.
As a young African leader, I hope to bring a perspective rooted in climate justice, youth empowerment, and storytelling. I believe that young people must be active participants in shaping solutions to global challenges, and I am committed to ensuring that youth voices are heard and respected.
I am deeply passionate about addressing climate change and environmental sustainability, particularly in communities that are most affected by climate impacts. Many young people today are growing up in a world where environmental challenges are becoming more severe, and it is important that they are equipped with the knowledge and tools to respond.
Young people have the creativity, energy, and determination needed to drive meaningful change. By supporting youth-led initiatives, investing in climate education, and encouraging innovation, we can empower the next generation of leaders to build sustainable solutions.
Through my role in the Youth Advisory Council, I hope to contribute to initiatives that strengthen youth leadership, promote climate awareness, and encourage young Africans to see themselves as agents of change.
To fellow students, I want to share one message: your voice matters more than you think. Leadership does not begin when we are older—it begins the moment we decide to care about the world around us. Whether it is through community service, environmental action, innovation, or simply raising awareness about important issues, every small step can create meaningful change.
My advice to other students is to stay curious, keep learning, and never be afraid to speak up about the issues you care about. The world needs young people who are willing to think differently, challenge problems, and create solutions.
The M-PESA Foundation Academy has played a vital role in shaping my growth by nurturing my curiosity, encouraging leadership, and supporting my passion for climate action. The lessons, mentorship, and opportunities I have received here continue to guide my journey.
As I look toward the future, I remain committed to using storytelling, advocacy, and innovation to raise awareness about climate change and inspire others to take action for a more sustainable world.
