This past August, the sporting spotlight turned to Kakamega, where our athletes stepped onto the national and regional stage with courage and pride. First came the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) National Championships, followed by the Federation of East African Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games.
The KSSSA Nationals are Kenya’s highest stage for secondary school sports. Success here not only crowns champions but also opens the door to FEASSA, where the best from across East Africa gather.
Our students were part of both the Term One Games (athletics, swimming, ball games and hockey) and the Term Two Games (racquet sports and ball games), excelling at every turn.
KSSSA Nationals: Breaking Limits in Kakamega
- Term One Games
- On the track, Bramwell Mathenge blazed to a gold medal in the 110m hurdles, a performance that crowned him the best hurdler in Kenya.
- Rita Adhiambo sprinted to silver in the 100m girls’ race, showing grit and speed against the country’s best.
- On the turf, our boys’ hockey team fought with resilience, earning a 4th place finish nationally, just shy of the medals.
- Term Two Games
- In tennis, David Fidel’s steady performances carried him all the way to 2nd place, securing a ticket to FEASSA.
- In badminton, Alvin Mwangi claimed a strong 5th place finish, while Whitney Akinyi and Shadiah Namiyingo battled through the girls’ draw to finish 10th and 11th respectively — all three earning regional qualification.
- Other team members also impressed: Obadiah Motelio and Mark Fidel in boys’ badminton, and Ester Sandra and Zippy Khalayi in girls’ badminton.
- Beyond racquet sports, our rugby 7s team placed 11th out of 24, the basketball girls’ 3×3 team took 9th place, while our table tennis players bowed out at the group stage.

More Than Medals
From the thunder of Bramwell’s hurdles to the quick hands of Alvin on the badminton court, from Rita’s explosive sprint to David’s steady racket strokes, each athlete carried with them the hopes of the Academy and of Kenya. Their journey from KSSSA Nationals to the FEASSA Games, both staged in Kakamega, was more than a pursuit of medals. It was a celebration of discipline, resilience, and the spirit of sportsmanship.
At the Academy, sport is more than competition; it is a platform for shaping character, discipline, teamwork, and leadership. Our athletes’ achievements this season echo our broader mission of transforming lives through sport.
We celebrate their courage and success, knowing that every race run, every point fought, and every game played is a step towards not only personal excellence but also inspiring their peers and community.
