Representing Mpesa Foundation Academy, we had the honour of participating in the 2025 Hillcrest Youth Leadership & Entrepreneurship Conference (HYLEC). This premier event brings together young leaders from across Kenya and Africa to inspire innovation, leadership, and entrepreneurship. We were selected to attend because of our passion for creative problem-solving and our involvement in student enterprise competitions.

At HYLEC, we engaged in leadership workshops, innovation challenges led by seasoned entrepreneurs, and business pitch sessions. The atmosphere was filled with energy, ambition, and collaboration. Interacting with students from different schools across the continent broadened our perspective. One standout moment was seeing how collaboration and creativity turned simple ideas into real-world solutions—just like our project OKOA MAJI+, which aims to conserve water and maximize food production.

We were thrilled to secure 2nd place in the senior category. This recognition filled us with pride and gratitude. It was a powerful reminder that teamwork, resilience, and belief in our vision can lead to meaningful achievements.

The experience taught us that true leadership begins with listening, teamwork, and the courage to take risks. We also learned the importance of clear communication and adaptability—especially when pitching ideas. These skills will continue to guide us in future competitions and personal growth.

We are deeply grateful to our mentors, teachers, and teammates for their unwavering support. Achievements like the Riara Innovation Challenge (1st place), School Enterprise Challenge (1st place), Innovation Day (2nd place), and now 2nd place at HYLEC remind us that success is built through consistency and collaboration.

Our message to fellow students: Believe in your ideas, stay curious, and dare to take bold steps—every great innovation begins with courage.
