English Language & Literature Teacher

Job Title : English Language & Literature Teacher

Contract Perod: 2 Year (Renewable)

   

ROLE PURPOSE:

The English Language & Literature Teacher will plan, deliver, and assess high-quality English Language & Literature lessons in alignment with the International Baccalaureate (IB) and Competency-Based Education (CBE) curricula, ensuring each student achieves academic excellence while upholding the Academy’s mission and values.

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Planning and Delivery 
  • Develop and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons adhering to  CBE standards.
  • Collaborate in designing unit/lesson plans, course outlines, and records of work.
  • Integrate technology, active learning strategies, and assessment-driven instruction.
  • Implement flipped learning for home assignments and support intervention programs.
  • Assessment 
  • Design IB/CBE -aligned formative/summative assessments and provide timely feedback.
  • Generate academic progress reports and administer examinations effectively.
  • Provide effective verbal and written feedback to learners in good time. 
  • Contribute to setting and moderating formative and summative assessments in line with IB/CBE expectations. 
  • Analyze learners’ progress to inform future teaching and intervention. 
  • Classroom Management
  • Manage teaching time through punctual and consistent attendance and observance of school timetable. 
  • Manage students’ behavior in the classroom, on school campus and on Academic trips. 
  • Utilize resources efficiently to enable effective outcomes. 
  • Use Academy Learning management system effectively. 
  • Develop and maintain a stimulating teaching environment. 
  • Other Professional Responsibilities 
  • Undertake pastoral duties, including that of a homeroom tutor so students are adequately supported through their school journey. 
  • Participate in, organize and guide co-curricular and life skills activities. 
  • Actively contribute to department engagements and pastoral responsibilities 
  • Take ownership of own professional development and participate in CPD provided by the Academy. 
  • Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships and relevant liaison and communication with staff and other stakeholders. 
  • Attend to duties assigned. 
  • Contribute to the development of whole school culture. 
  • Set objectives in line with the school’s appraisal system. 
  • Maintain a vibrant and rich professional portfolio tracking individual progress 
  • Undertake any other additional tasks as may be reasonably required by the Head of Department, Head of Academics and Director of Teaching and Learning. 

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

  • Student Outcomes – Meet/exceed grade targets (IB/CBE benchmarks). Engagement in lessons & co-curriculars. Measurable progress via pre/post-assessments.
  • Teacher Effectiveness – Overall score of “effective” in classroom observations (per formal classroom observation). 75+ positive student feedback on agreed differentiators as per student survey form. Outstanding performance in annual evaluations.
  • Professuional Growth – 100% CPD attendance. Innovate with 1+ tech/digital tool annually

TECHNICAL AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in education in the subject combination 
  • Must be TSC registered. 
  • At least 5 years teaching experience or equivalent in a comparable institution. 
  • Ability to foster a supportive environment for learners and educators to realize their full potential and willingness to work collaboratively. 
  • Ability to maintain professionalism in all areas. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; and
  • Demonstrable planning and organization skills and ability
