During my attachment as an international freight management student at Garden Freight Logistics, a flower exporting company based at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Kenya, I gained invaluable insights into the intricate world of global logistics and the floral export industry. Navigating the dynamic environment of JKIA, I learned to orchestrate the seamless movement of flowers from cultivation to international destinations. The process involved meticulous planning, documentation, and adherence to international regulations. Coordinating with various stakeholders, including growers, customs officials, and airline representatives, became a daily routine, enhancing my communication and negotiation skills. Witnessing the delicate handling of flowers, from packaging to transportation, underscored the significance of maintaining product quality. I actively participated in monitoring temperature-controlled storage facilities, ensuring that the blooms retained their freshness for international markets. The exposure to diverse cultures and regulatory frameworks deepened my understanding of the challenges inherent in international freight management. Additionally, I had the opportunity to observe the role of technology in streamlining logistics operations, contributing to my appreciation for digital tools in the modern supply chain. My attachment to the flower exporting company not only broadened my knowledge of international freight management but also fostered a profound appreciation for the role flowers play in connecting global communities. This experience has equipped me with practical skills and a comprehensive understanding of the complexities of exporting perishable goods, setting a solid foundation for my future endeavours in the field.
