Health and Safety Measures at the Academy

Currently on site and in preparation for a safe return for all students and staff, the Academy has developed robust guidance and protocols. Health and safety measures are in place in every area. These include but are not limited to:

•Working from home for staff so that there is minimal contact with others and a reduction of risk with regards to travel.

•Changes to how meals are prepared, served and taken. With a focus on social distance, and sanitisation.

•The number of students in residences has been reduced so that social distancing can be maintained and internal procedures have been adapted so there is minimal contact in exchanging any equipment.

•Our facilities have clear markings for social distancing and hand washing. Additional sanitization points have been installed, cleaning and sanitisation of surfaces and equipment is done regularly and key areas are fumigated.

•The clinic has been organised so students’ medical needs are met safely. We have an isolation area prepared and ready for use so students can be cared for and staff can conduct their work safely.

•Classrooms have been organised so that social distancing can be maintained, there is a reduced number of students within each class and ICT is used when possible for assessment and feedback.

•Advocacy materials such as posters, flyers, relevant information and photos that communicate information about the virus are placed at strategic locations within the Academy such as classrooms, residences, the dining hall, clinic, toilets, offices, staff room and at the gate.
Important information communicated in the advocacy materials includes the following:

•Wash and sanitise hands frequently.

•Wear a mask

•Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth.

•Cover the mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when coughing or sneezing, then dispose of the used tissue safely in a bin with a lid.

•Maintain at least a 1.5 metre distance between yourself and others.
