I come from Samburu County where I currently live and it may come to no surprise that I wanted to go to university to study Veterinary Medicine at the University of Surrey. I was fortunate to get an internship position at the Directorate of Veterinary Services in the County Government of Samburu.
Part of my practice at the veterinary services is to carry out meat inspection. I started my internship in the beginning by carrying out animal experience services and recently started the meat inspection services. Through my time here, I have learnt about different diseases such as foot and mouth disease and how to use a syringe to vaccinate cattle. During meat inspection I have learnt the various steps such as; observation, touching and finally slicing through the part or organ being inspected.
I believe that my work experience has prepared me as I wait to join university because I now have a better understanding of both animal experience and veterinary skills. I look forward to sharing my skills and practical experience and also learning from my fellow classmates and lecturers at my new university as I believe there is a lot we can learn and build from each other.
