If passion was a journey of one thousand kilometres then it’s only fair enough to boldly state that I have travelled a considerable distance through the journey. When the lockdown happened, me and friend-Mark started thinking of ways we would be able to inform and reach our colleagues. How can we continue to celebrate our successes and inspire others who are not necessarily from the MFA fraternity?
I then realised that we could use technology to bring us together despite our various geographic locations. We then formed MarkAndy; a platform where we would practice our passion in journalism. Co-hosted by Mark Mutugi, we bring guests from all walks of life who have achieved notable success and changed the life of others in the community. We run the programme via WhatsApp, where we use voice note. The program normally runs for 3 days per week, Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. So far, we have invited a number of guests namely; Les Baille our CEO, Daniel Muthee, Collins Opondo, Christopher Wanzala, who we believe are transformational leaders in their own way. We have also hosted our very own Frank Abdi, Walter Wagude, Brian Kipkirui, Ashley Chepkorir amongst many other students. They all have wise words of encouragement that have carried us through this uncertain time. We look forward to hosting guests from all over the nation and are currently looking to have well renowned Media personalities as our guests.
The team is also growing and we have been joined by two additional talented scholars, Gideon Simiyu and David Kahara. Gideon is in charge of the operations of the programme while David co-hosts with us.
Since the show on 25th May 2020, we have been able to learn various skills required in the media industry as well as a few management skills. We’ve known that success requires patience, determination and endurance. Some of the challenges we have faced include; network and connectivity which sometimes fails. Secondly, finding and inviting suitable guests who may and they end up cancelling on the day we are airing due to unavoidable circumstances. A key positive result is that we have grown from having 30 participants to 200 participants and even more at times.
For now, we are looking to have mentors who can guide us and help us improve and connect with more people. However, I have to admit that our audience has played a major role in helping us identify our guests. As a team, we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our dear audience and all guests who have accepted our invitation. Thank you so much!
Lastly, I would like to thank my fellow crew members for their teamwork spirit. I believe through resilience, we will go far.
